Digital scams involve fraudulent activities conducted through digital channels like the internet and mobile devices.

Some common types include phishing, vishing, smishing, online shopping fraud, and romance scams. These scams often aim to steal personal information, financial details, or trick victims into making fraudulent transactions.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

1. Phishing: This involves deceptive emails, messages, or websites designed to trick individuals into revealing sensitive information like usernames, passwords, credit card details, or other personal data. [3, 4]

2. Vishing: This is a form of phishing that uses voice communication, often through phone calls, where scammers impersonate trusted entities to obtain sensitive information.

3. Smishing: Similar to phishing, smishing uses text messages to trick individuals into providing personal information or clicking malicious links.

4. Online Shopping Fraud: This includes fake e-commerce websites or misleading product listings that result in undelivered goods, substandard products, or the theft of payment information.

5. Romance Scams: Scammers create fake online profiles to build relationships with victims, often manipulating them emotionally, and then request money for various fabricated emergencies or situations.

6. Tech Support Scams: Fraudsters pose as tech support representatives and trick victims into believing their devices are infected with malware, gaining remote access to their systems and potentially stealing information or installing malicious software.

7. Investment Scams: These scams involve promises of high returns on investments, often with unrealistic or guaranteed profits, leading victims to lose their money.

8. Lottery/Gift Scams: Victims are notified they've won a lottery or received a gift, but are then asked to pay fees or provide personal information to claim their prize.

9. Identity Theft: Scammers steal personal information like social security numbers, addresses, or bank account details to impersonate the victim and commit fraud.

10. SIM Swap Fraud: This involves taking control of a victim's phone number by porting it to a new SIM card, allowing the scammer to intercept calls, texts, and access accounts linked to that number.

11. Malware and Viruses: Scammers may send malicious software through various channels, which can infect devices, steal data, or disrupt systems.

12. Mandate Fraud: Scammers convince victims to change payment details for legitimate businesses or organizations, diverting payments to the scammer's account.

13. Copycat Websites: These are websites designed to look like official government or business sites, often to collect personal information or steal money.

14. Grandparent Scams: Scammers target elderly individuals by pretending to be their grandchildren in distress and requesting money for emergencies.

15. Advance-fee scams: Scammers promise a large sum of money in exchange for an upfront fee.
